Cate @ Tavolara Film Festival

The day before yesterday Cate attended one of the most important Sardinian Film Festival, the ‘Tavolara Film Festival’, in Sardinia.

During the night ‘Una notte in Italia’, Caterina along with other famous Italian actors, such as Valeria Golino, Riccardo Scamarcio, etc… talked about the Italian Television and Cinema.

Caterina was the most polemic according some articles. Infact she said:

“Non ci sono storie di qualità, dialoghi di qualità, registi .. il livello è basso” (translated: “There aren’t stories of a good quality, good scripts, directors … the level is low”), while about fiction she said that it “lobotomizza la gente” (translated: “it is a lobotmy for people”).

She was happy to be there in her Sardinia, and she said about it:

“Purtroppo vengo raramente, ma la adoro. La trovo bella, pulita, tenuta bene, ordinata come poche” (translated: “Unfortunatelly I come here rarely, but I adore it! I find that it is beautiful, tidy as a few regions”).

In an interview she also says that she still feels like a Bond-Girl, and probably she will also attend an event with all the women of James Bond!

But she also talked about her upcoming projects, such as a new one! Infact, Caterina is working on a documentary about her native region, Sardinia for the BBC. I can’t wait to see it!! ^^

Meanwhile we will wait for her new movies, such as ‘Il Seme della Discordia’, which will be out in Italian theatres in October!

[This should perhaps be a separate post, but I'm unsure how to do that!]

Caterina was in London at the end of July 08 to see an investors screening of her film ‘The Garden of Eden’. This was not a large publicity stunt and was therefore relatively low-key.

In the film Caterina plays the role extremely well and just as the character in Hemmingway’s book, unsurprisingly called, “The Garden of Eden”. The character starts off as a [apparently] naive girl who then ‘cunningly’ manipulates the emotions of the other 2 main characters to get what she wants, with the character gradually showing more of the latter trait.

The film itself is an absolutely fantastic production with outstanding cinematography. I was quite taken aback by how well it turned out and how well not just Caterina, but the other characters, Mina Suvari and Jack Houstan acted. The main drawback to the film is that it does not follow an obvious beginning/middle/end. It is a slightly deep film, but that deep. Most people should be thoroughly entertained by it provided that they are not expecting obvious things to happen!

[Please add to earlier comment - I did forget to add these bits]

Just to add that I was fortunate to meet Cate [or was she fortunate to meet me??] and was delighted that she really did appear pleased to be there and to meet with people. I had expect that turning up at such an event on Sunday morning [from Paris to London for 10 am] would be a necessary chore but this did not appear to be the case for her. She is a delight to meet.
